Grants

As a homeowner or a residential landlord in England, you can now apply for the Green Homes Grant, which offers financial assistance for energy-efficient home improvements. With the grant, you can make your home more energy-efficient by installing insulation and low-carbon heating to reduce your energy use and carbon footprint.

The government will cover two-thirds of the cost of eligible improvements up to a maximum of £5,000. However, if you or someone in your household receives certain benefits, you could receive a voucher covering 100% of the cost of the improvements, up to a maximum value of £10,000.

Reduce Your Energy Bills and Carbon Footprint

The Green Homes Grant is available to those who own their own homes, park homes on residential sites, and who are residential landlords in the private or social rented sector. However, it is not available for newly built homes that have not been previously occupied.

We recommend seeking advice on how best to improve your home’s energy efficiency and heating. You can use the Simple Energy Advice (SEA) website to check what energy efficiency or low carbon heating improvements may be best suited to your home. You can also seek advice from your property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) or from a retrofit assessor.

The available measures are split into ‘primary’ and ‘secondary’ measures. The voucher must be used to install at least one primary measure, such as insulation or low-carbon heat. If you install at least one primary measure, your voucher can be used to help cover the cost of any of the following secondary measures, such as draught-proofing, double or triple glazing, and hot water tank insulation.

The costs covered by the voucher include labor, materials, VAT, and additional works necessary for the installation of measures. However, work cannot be completed by yourself, a member of your household, or your immediate family.

All work covered by the voucher must be completed by a TrustMark-registered installer who is also registered for the scheme. Your installer will also need to meet PAS and MCS standards when installing your measures.

How To Apply

To apply for the voucher, you need to check your eligibility, what energy efficiency or low-carbon heat improvements may be suitable for your home, and find certified installers in your area that are able to carry out the work. Once you have decided which improvements to have installed, we recommend getting at least three quotes from certified installers to make sure you are getting the best value for money.

Finally, to redeem your voucher, you will need your reference number, the postcode of the property where the measure has been installed, the email address that you used to make your application, your voucher number, the final cost of the measure (including VAT, as applicable), and a digital copy of your dated invoice. When you redeem your voucher, the grant will be paid on your behalf directly to the installer.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to reduce your energy bills and carbon footprint. Apply for the Green Homes Grant today and make your home more energy-efficient.
